My Story: An Ordinary Day That Became Extraordinary

I don’t know if you’ve had a similar experience, but there was a point in my life when I felt so broken and alone.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” – Psalms 34:18

I was a bullied kid, and throughout my teenage years, I always felt something was wrong with me. I thought I didn’t deserve to be loved because I was fat, ugly, and unwanted. People I considered friends betrayed me.

Before Jesus saved me, I lived in fear of people and hated interacting with others.

The story of the Samaritan woman touched me deeply. On one ordinary day, while I was watching anime at my computer, my cousin—already a follower of Christ—spoke to me about Jesus. That ordinary day became extraordinary. It was the day Jesus called me and saved me.

The Story of the Samaritan Woman (John 4:1–26)

Jesus, a Jewish Rabbi, traveled through Samaria on His way to Galilee. At Jacob’s well, He met a Samaritan woman and asked her for a drink. This was shocking to her because Jews and Samaritans were enemies.

But as always, Jesus was intentional about where He went and who He met.

He is intentional in selecting His disciples, even. Jesus does not easily trust people, as said in John 2:23-25, “Because of the miraculous signs Jesus did in Jerusalem at the Passover celebration, many began to trust in him. But Jesus didn’t trust them, because he knew all about people. No one needed to tell him about human nature, for he knew what was in each person’s heart.”

Why the Samaritan Woman?

  • She was longing for someone to save her.
  • She had lived unseen, unworthy, and unloved.
  • She was going through her ordinary daily routine, yet Jesus turned that day into a divine encounter.

Just like her, we may try to satisfy our thirst with the wrong things—relationships, achievements, routines—but nothing truly satisfies except Jesus.

Divine Appointment (John 4:32–38)

When God gives us a divine appointment, He often uses ordinary days. What seems routine to us can become someone else’s first step toward salvation.

If my cousin hadn’t listened to her divine appointment, I might not have met the Lord that day.

How Jesus Spoke to the Samaritan Woman

Jesus shared the Gospel in a personal, step-by-step way:

  1. Innocent Statement – Asking for water (v.7).
  2. Intriguing Statement – Speaking of “living water” (v.10).
  3. Inviting Statement – Offering eternal life (vv.13–15).
  4. Intrusive Statement – Revealing her personal life (vv.16–18).
  5. Invasive Statement – Pointing her to true worship and relationship with God (vv.21–26).

👉 Notice how Jesus didn’t rush. He started with something ordinary and built up to the eternal truth.

The Samaritan Woman’s Response

  • She believed.
  • She shared the Good News immediately.
  • She became the first evangelist in the New Testament.

Jesus turned her brokenness into testimony. And He can do the same with us.

My Reflection

Just like the Samaritan woman, my past was full of brokenness and feelings of being unloved. But Jesus changed everything.

Now, I want to share Him with you—to remind you that you are worthy, loved, and seen by the Lord.

Call to Action

When Jesus calls us, let’s welcome Him. When He meets us, let’s allow Him into our hearts.

God uses small acts of obedience in our private lives to prepare us for greater ministry in public. Be ready for the harvest—your divine appointment may come on an ordinary day.

Reflective Questions

  1. Have you encountered Jesus in your ordinary day?
  2. If you already follow Him, what divine appointment has He led you to?
  3. Where in your life have you felt broken? Will you surrender it to Him today?

A Prayer for You

Lord Jesus, I welcome You into my life. I ask for forgiveness for my sins. Heal me where I am broken, refresh me with Your living water, and remind me that I am loved, worthy, and seen by You. Thank You for Your faithfulness. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
